Buying snapshot

Quick buying snapshot

A compact view of who this tool fits, what it costs, and what to confirm before choosing it.

Best for
  • You want to replace broad VPN access with Resource-level least privilege: Twingate denies access by default and grants users and groups access to defined FQDN, IP, CIDR, and port-scoped Resources.
  • You need one client-based access layer across multiple clouds and on-premises networks: Software Connectors run behind customer firewalls, support multiple Remote Networks, and serve broad TCP, UDP, and ICMP application traffic.
More buying conditions
  • You need automated machine access alongside workforce access: Business and Enterprise include Service Accounts and Service Keys for non-interactive Windows or Linux headless Clients, with each Service Account consuming a license.
Not for
  • You require clientless browser access to private applications: Protected Resource access requires the Twingate Client, and the Enterprise browser extension also requires a compatible Client.
  • You require web, malware, phishing, and content filtering in the core ZTNA price: The plan comparison labels DNS and related filtering controls as add-ons for Business and Enterprise rather than core plan inclusions.
More buying conditions
  • You need full protocol inspection or session recording as a core Twingate ZTNA capability: Core Twingate provides encrypted Layer 3 and Layer 4 access and event metadata; Identity Firewall and gateway recording features are outside this plan profile.
Pricing
  • Permanent free Starter edition; fixed-price non-commercial Home edition; per-user Teams and Business editions with monthly or annual billing; and custom-priced Enterprise licensing
  • Home · $15 USD · per month · Non-commercial use
Free or trial access
  • Starter is a permanent free edition. Home, Teams, and Business advertise a 14-day trial; the trial is not a pricing plan.

Least-privilege access20%
86

Resource-level deny-by-default policies, split tunneling, and scoped Resource types support least-privilege access by limiting what a user can reach; the score reflects that the fact set shows strong policy control, while not all advanced policy constructs are specified.

Identity and device trust17%
79

IdP-backed identity, MFA, native posture, MDM, and EDR signals establish user and device trust, while enterprise IdP depth and endpoint-security integrations are plan-bounded to Business and Enterprise.

Application coverage15%
83

FQDN, wildcard, IP, CIDR, TCP, UDP, ICMP, and port-scoped Resources cover private, public, cloud, and on-premises apps including SSH, RDP, databases, and web, without documented core clientless application delivery.

User experience and performance14%
79

Peer-to-peer transport with globally distributed Relay fallback and split tunneling can keep authorized paths direct after Client connection, subject to Connector placement and Client currency requirements.

Security and resilience13%
81

Outbound-only Connectors, automatic Connector clustering, deny-by-default Resources, and expiring Service Keys reduce inbound exposure, alongside the operational requirement to keep Clients within the supported 12-month window.

Administration and integrations11%
79

Admin API, Terraform, Pulumi, enterprise IdP automation, endpoint integrations, and S3 export support operational integration on higher editions, while DNS filtering remains a separately priced Business and Enterprise add-on.

Support and total cost10%
74

Starter is free for up to 5 users, Teams is $6 per user per month monthly or $5 annually billed, Business is $12 or $10 respectively, and Home is $15 per month non-commercial, with Enterprise pricing, priority support, and SLAs quote-based and no public minimum commitment term.

Twingate offers a cloud-managed ZTNA solution featuring a secure outbound connector architecture and peer-to-peer transport, making it a viable VPN replacement for teams that can accommodate local client installation and plan-specific integration boundaries.

Review confidence
84/100
Model details
Strengths
  • Outbound software connectors utilize automatic clustering to secure private networks without requiring inbound open firewall ports.
  • Granular, resource-level deny-by-default policies can be defined across FQDN, wildcard, IP, CIDR, TCP, UDP, and ICMP protocols.
  • Comprehensive administrative automation is supported via an Admin API alongside official Terraform and Pulumi providers.
Cautions
  • The lack of a core clientless web-portal option forces all connecting users to install and run the local Twingate Client software.
  • Connections are blocked for any client devices running software that is older than 12 months.
  • Paid licensing seats are consumed by admins, pending users, disabled users, and Service Accounts alike.
xAIAI-assisted buyer perspective78

Twingate fits B2B teams that can deploy Clients and outbound Connectors for Resource-level private access with identity and device context, provided plan limits, Client dependency, and edition boundaries for enterprise IdP, posture integrations, Service Accounts, and retention match the estate.

GPTAI-assisted buyer perspective77

Twingate fits buyers that want client-based ZTNA with private resource access, identity and device-aware policy control, and a clear step-up path from free to larger paid editions; it is less suitable for buyers that need clientless access, published enterprise pricing, or home-use and business-use to mix in one plan.

Review confidence
77/100
Model details
Strengths
  • It supports private resource access through clients and outbound Connectors, which fits teams replacing VPN-style access with identity- and device-aware controls.
  • It offers resource-level deny-by-default policies, split tunneling, and private DNS resolution, which supports least-privilege access patterns for internal resources.
  • It provides a broad edition ladder from a permanent free Starter tier to paid per-user plans and custom Enterprise licensing, which gives buyers multiple entry points and expansion paths.
Cautions
  • Users must install and run a supported Client, so this product does not provide clientless private-application access.
  • The Home edition is limited to non-commercial use, and the published paid tiers still have user, device, Remote Network, Resource, and retention limits.
  • Enterprise pricing and contract terms require a quote, so buyers that need fully public enterprise commercial terms will need direct vendor confirmation.

FAQ

Twingate FAQ

Is Twingate Starter a permanent free plan?

Yes. Starter is the permanent free edition for up to 5 users and 50 Resources. It is separate from the 14-day paid-plan trial.

How much do Home, Teams, and Business cost?

Home is $15 per month and is limited to non-commercial use. Teams is $6 per user per month with monthly billing or $5 with annual billing. Business is $12 monthly billed or $10 annually billed. No minimum commitment term is publicly stated.

How are Service Accounts licensed?

Each Service Account counts toward the licensed total regardless of the number or active state of its Service Keys. Home includes Service Accounts for non-commercial use; in the business ladder they are included from Business upward.

Does Twingate support clientless browser access?

No current core clientless method is documented. Users access browser and non-browser Resources through the Twingate Client. The Enterprise browser extension is early access and also requires the Client.

What do Twingate Connectors do?

Connectors are customer-deployed software proxies behind the firewall. They make outbound connections, resolve private Resource names, proxy authorized traffic, and cluster within a Remote Network for redundancy.

Is DNS filtering included?

Private DNS routing is part of Resource access. Device-wide DNS-over-HTTPS is documented separately. Custom DNS, content, security, and network-level filtering are optional add-ons for Business and Enterprise, with no public add-on price.

How long are network events retained?

The published minimums are 24 hours on Starter, 30 days on Home, 7 days on Teams, 30 days on Business, and 12 months on Enterprise. Home, Business, and Enterprise can sync supported logs to S3 where their plan capabilities permit it.
