Buying snapshot

Quick buying snapshot

A compact view of who this tool fits, what it costs, and what to confirm before choosing it.

Best for
  • The organization needs one WAF product across on-premises, private-cloud, container, and public-cloud infrastructure: FortiWeb is available as hardware, VM, container, and public-cloud virtual appliances with common application and API protection capabilities.
  • Security teams want machine-learning anomaly detection, API discovery, schema validation, and bot controls in a self-managed WAF: FortiWeb combines dual-layer machine learning with API inventory and positive-security controls, bot mitigation, signatures, and threat intelligence.
More buying conditions
  • The environment already uses Fortinet security products: FortiWeb integrates with FortiGate and FortiSandbox and participates in the Fortinet Security Fabric, while also supporting third-party vulnerability scanners.
Not for
  • The buyer needs public numeric pricing before reseller engagement: The current ordering guide publishes plans, service placement, and SKUs but no numeric appliance or bundle prices.
  • The team wants a no-infrastructure SaaS WAF rather than operating appliances or VMs: That requirement maps to the separate FortiAppSec Cloud platform, which incorporates the former FortiWeb Cloud service.
More buying conditions
  • The purchase must include 24x7 managed monitoring and escalation in every core edition: SOCaaS is a separately licensed managed service in the current ordering guide and FortiWeb administration documentation.
Pricing
  • Quote-based Standard, Advanced, and Enterprise bundles. Hardware is acquired as appliance bundles; FortiWeb-VM S-series is a yearly subscription. Perpetual VM licensing and public-cloud BYOL or PAYG are separate routes.
  • Standard Bundle · Requires quote · custom quote
Free or trial access
  • No permanent free plan. FortiWeb-VM has a 15-day trial that excludes high availability, FortiGuard updates, and technical support; most functionality is disabled after expiry.

Current official sources describe an offer or purchase route differently. The page remains usable, but affected price schema is withheld until the scope is resolved.

  • The July 2026 ordering guide assigns Advanced Bot Protection, Client-Side Security, and DLP to Enterprise and lists SOCaaS as an add-on. A current FortiWeb 8.0 network guide instead says DLP, Advanced Bot Protection, and SOCaaS require Advanced. The newer purpose-built ordering guide controls this profile, but buyers should confirm final SKU entitlements in a quote.

Protection efficacy20%
86

Machine-learning detection, bot mitigation controls, virtual patching through scanner integration, and FortiGate or FortiSandbox threat sharing combine into a broad protection stack for self-managed web and API fronts when the matching services are entitled.

Policy accuracy and tuning17%
81

Uses machine learning to analyze anomalies and automate threat detection, reducing reliance on manual policy tuning, though fine-tuning capacity remains bound to the limits of the selected hardware or VM model.

Application and API coverage15%
87

The product targets web applications and APIs together, with API discovery, OpenAPI, XML, and JSON schema controls, and positive-security policy, so coverage fits mixed app and API estates under one self-managed WAF deployment.

Security operations14%
81

Facilitates security operations through integrations with FortiGate and FortiSandbox to enable central threat sharing, virtual patching, and optional managed SOCaaS.

Performance and reliability13%
76

Deployment options across hardware, VM, container, and public cloud support flexible reliability planning, but VM sizing is license-bound by vCPU and the current facts do not establish uniform throughput or fault-tolerance outcomes across all deployments.

Deployment and integrations11%
87

Hardware, VM, container, and public-cloud deployment plus FortiGate, FortiSandbox, and third-party scanner integrations make the product fit mixed infrastructure and Fortinet-centered environments, with the main boundary being that integration breadth does not prove continuous synchronization quality.

Support and total cost10%
60

Standard includes support, but pricing is quote-based, public numeric prices are not published, the trial is limited, and several services are edition- or add-on-dependent, so buyers need a quote to judge total cost and support scope.

Detailed strengths and purchase cautions
Pros

Why it is worth considering

  • It supports dual-layer machine-learning detection for known attacks, anomalies, and zero-day threats, which can help teams cover both signature-based and emerging attack patterns.
  • It includes API discovery, OpenAPI, XML, and JSON schema enforcement, positive-security policy, and CI/CD integration, which supports teams that want application and API controls tied to development workflows.
  • It offers FortiView dashboards, real-time logs, attack analytics, REST API, Syslog, SNMP, and email monitoring, which gives security teams multiple response and reporting paths.
  • It supports hardware, VM, container, and public-cloud deployment, which gives buyers flexibility to place WAF controls in different infrastructure models.
Cons

What to confirm before buying

  • Pricing is quote-based and public numeric prices for editions and models are not published in the current ordering guide, which makes early budget comparison harder.
  • There is no permanent free plan, and the 15-day VM trial excludes high availability, FortiGuard updates, and technical support while disabling most functionality after expiry.
  • The product is self-managed rather than a fully managed SaaS WAF, so buyers must be prepared to operate an appliance or VM, or move to FortiAppSec Cloud as a separate route if managed service is required.
  • The current ordering guide and one FortiWeb 8.0 licensing topic disagree on where DLP, Advanced Bot Protection, and SOCaaS are packaged, so entitlement scope should be verified in the final quote.

GPTAI-assisted buyer perspective82

FortiWeb fits buyers that need self-managed WAF and API protection across hardware, VM, container, or public-cloud deployment, especially when Fortinet integrations and virtual patching matter. It is less suitable when the buying requirement is public pricing, a permanent free tier, or a fully managed SaaS WAF.

xAIAI-assisted buyer perspective81

FortiWeb fits mid-market and enterprise teams that will operate a self-managed hardware, VM, container, or public-cloud WAF for web apps and APIs, using dual-layer machine-learning detection, API schema controls, and Fortinet Security Fabric integrations, if they accept quote-based commercial terms and confirm edition entitlements for advanced services.

Review confidence
81/100
Model details
Strengths
  • Dual-layer machine-learning detection addresses known attacks, anomalies, and zero-day threats within the protected application path.
  • API discovery with OpenAPI, XML, and JSON schema enforcement, positive-security policy, and CI/CD integration supports structured API protection workflows.
  • Hardware, virtual, container, and public-cloud deployment options, plus FortiGate, FortiSandbox, and vulnerability-scanner integrations, support hybrid Fortinet environments and virtual patching.
  • FortiView dashboards, real-time logs, attack analytics, REST API, Syslog, SNMP, and email monitoring give security operations multiple event and response channels.
Cautions
  • Commercial terms are quote-based, with no public numeric prices for editions, appliances, support, renewal, or implementation.
  • Per the ordering guide, Cloud Sandbox, Credential Stuffing Defense, and Threat Analytics require Advanced
  • Advanced Bot Protection, Client-Side Security, and DLP require Enterprise
  • FortiAI and SOCaaS are additional services, and the final quote must resolve any packaging ambiguity.
GeminiAI-assisted buyer perspective80

Fortinet FortiWeb is a self-managed web application and API firewall with dual-layer machine-learning threat detection and Security Fabric integration, requiring custom quotes and careful verification of specific model resource capacities.

Review confidence
80/100
Model details
Strengths
  • Supports multiple self-managed deployment choices including hardware appliances, virtual machines (VMs), containers, and public clouds (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud) with BYOL and PAYG options.
  • Employs dual-layer machine-learning detection to protect against known attacks, anomalies, and zero-day threats without relying solely on signatures.
  • Integrates with FortiGate, FortiSandbox, and third-party scanners to support automated threat intelligence sharing and virtual patching across the Security Fabric.
Cautions
  • Total cost of ownership is opaque because numeric pricing for appliance bundles, VM subscriptions, renewals, and professional support is entirely quote-based and not publicly listed.
  • Crucial security components like Cloud Sandbox, Credential Stuffing Defense, Advanced Bot Protection, and DLP require upgrading from the Standard bundle to higher-priced Advanced or Enterprise editions.
  • The 15-day VM trial has restricted utility because it excludes high availability, technical support, and FortiGuard updates, and it disables most functionality after expiration.

FAQ

Fortinet FortiWeb FAQ

What are the current FortiWeb editions?

The current ordering guide lists Standard, Advanced, and Enterprise bundles for FortiWeb hardware and FortiWeb-VM subscriptions. Appliance and VM model sizes are deployment choices, not additional editions.

Is FortiWeb Cloud the same purchase as FortiWeb appliance or VM?

No. Fortinet now positions the former FortiWeb Cloud WAF inside the separate FortiAppSec Cloud SaaS platform. Its plans should not be mixed with FortiWeb appliance and VM bundles.

Can FortiWeb run in public cloud?

Yes. FortiWeb-VM is available for AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and Oracle Cloud, with BYOL and PAYG routes documented for public-cloud deployment.

Does FortiWeb have a free plan or trial?

There is no permanent free plan. FortiWeb-VM includes a 15-day trial without high availability, FortiGuard updates, or technical support.

Are advanced FortiGuard and managed services included?

Some FortiGuard services are bundled by edition. The current ordering guide places Cloud Sandbox, Credential Stuffing Defense, and Threat Analytics in Advanced; Advanced Bot Protection, Client-Side Security, and DLP in Enterprise; and SOCaaS and FortiAI as additional services.

Are FortiADC and FortiDDoS part of FortiWeb?

No. FortiADC is a separate application delivery controller with an integrated WAF, and FortiDDoS is a separate purpose-built DDoS protection product.
